MEM501 - Dementia Training: Understanding Dementia (1.5 HR)

 

Purpose: All staff working in the long term care setting will increase their knowledge and skills in caring for persons diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder. Objectives: 1. Describe Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), how the brain works and how it is affected by AD; 2. Discuss how memory loss from AD and other related disorders differs from normal aging; 3. Explain neurological diseases or conditions that can cause irreversible dementia and other conditions or disorders that may result in symptoms that mimic AD; 4. Describe stages of Alzheimer's disease and related symptoms and behaviors; 5. Discuss how AD is diagnosed, the causes, cures, and research.
