NUR102 - Autoimmune Disorders (4.0 HR)
Purpose: Health care providers will increase their understanding of a variety of common autoimmune disorders including skills needed for patient care. Objectives: 1. Better understand how the immune system works; 2. Discuss the causes, incidence and risk factors related to autoimmune disorders; 3. Discuss the pathophysiology of a variety of common autoimmune disorders including Graves’ disease, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and others; 4. Explain the symptoms and prognosis of these disorders; 5. Explore disease-modifying treatments and therapies for autoimmune disorders; 6. Describe related complications; 7. Discuss autoimmune disease in women and gerontologic considerations; 8. Discuss research studies related to autoimmune diseases.
