NUR161 - Depression in Children & Adolescents (1.0 HR)
Purpose: This course provides an overview of common depression diagnoses and gives health care workers the skills to best meet the needs of young patients with depression.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Define depression.
- Describe the symptoms of depression as experienced by children and adolescents.
- Discuss how anxiety and depression are often connected.
- Identify several mental health disorders which youth with depression experience.
- Describe the known and theorized causes for depression.
- Recognize treatments for depression.
- List the warning signs of suicide in youth.
- Discuss which steps to take with a patient who expresses or displays suicidality.
- List three in-the-moment techniques to utilize with a patient with depression.
