NUR185 - Circulatory Ulcers (1.0 HR)

Purpose: The healthcare professional will gain information and understanding regarding the cause, care and prevention of two types of circulatory ulcers, venous stasis and arterial (ischemic), and the differences between the two. Objectives: 1. Be able to describe the anatomy and physiology of the vascular system; 2. Be able to list possible causes and resulting symptoms of venous insufficiencies that may cause venous stasis ulcers; 3. Be able to describe common locations and characteristics of venous stasis ulcers; 4. Be able to discuss diagnostic procedures used to differentiate venous stasis ulcers from a blood clot; 5. Be able to list common treatments used to care for and prevent venous stasis ulcers; 6. Be able to discuss common causes of arterial insufficiencies that lead to arterial (ischemic) ulcers; 7. Discuss common locations and symptoms/characteristics associated with arterial ulcers; 8. Identify diagnostic procedures used to assess for arterial insufficiency; 9. Explain methods used to treat and prevent arterial ulcers.
