HOME HEALTH

HH108 - Home Health Patient Rights and Advance Directives (1.0 HR)

Purpose: Patients have rights that health care providers are required to follow. These rights ensure that all patients are given choices, have the rights to refuse services or care, understand treatments, and receive quality care. This course is designed to give an overview of patient rights following the federal model patient bill of rights that are a condition of participation in Medicare and Medicaid. If the patient lacks decision-making ability or is legally incompetent, a designated surrogate, family member, or guardian can exercise the patient’s rights on their behalf. You will learn about various types of advance directives, which are legal documents that detail a patient’s health care preferences and end-of-life decisions. Objectives: 1) Outline aspects of the home health care patient bill of rights;2) Explain the application of these rights to the individual patient under their care; 3) Describe the various advance directives and end-of-life documents and the intended purpose of each.
