CNA116 - Personal Cares (1.0 HR)

Regulations for long-term care vary from state to state. This course was adapted from best practices developed for long-term care nursing assistants. Please note that the furniture and equipment in your facility may vary as well. Be aware of your facility policies, procedures, and protocols for care of the residents and follow them. If you have questions regarding residents in your care, see the nurse in charge. The resident’s current level of mobility and functioning will depend upon the degree of assistance needed to complete daily tasks. As a nursing assistant, you are key in facilitating each resident meets their highest level of functioning. This course will discuss bathing, grooming, dressing, oral care, and perineal care.

 

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. List benefits of the bath.
  2. Discuss bathing techniques with the different types of baths.
  3. Describe proper dressing and undressing techniques.
  4. Define terms, equipment, and procedures associated with safe transfers.
  5. Explain proper perineal and catheter care.
  6. List the benefits of good oral hygiene.
  7. Define periodontal disease.
  8. Demonstrate the proper procedure for providing oral care and denture care.
