REG100 - Bloodborne Pathogens and Exposure Control (1.0 HR)

Purpose: Health care personnel will increase their understanding of the safeguards used to protect themselves and others against the health hazards which can result from exposure to blood and certain body fluids containing bloodborne pathogens. Objectives: 1. Identify bloodborne pathogens and how they are spread. 2. Explain six components of an exposure control plan. 3. List appropriate safety methods and work practice controls. 4. Describe the basic concepts of hand washing versus using alcohol-based hand sanitizer.5. Review when to wear each type of personal protective equipment (PPE).6. Recognize signs and labels that are used to alert personnel of danger involving infectious materials.7. Describe how to deal with Regulated Medical Waste. 8. Identify the steps to take if an accidental exposure occurs.
